His 2 other Watson cousins joined at similar times. Cousin George T Watson enlisted 11 Feb 1915, and country cousin William M Watson joined 22 July 1915. ( William was definitely born in Castlemaine)  George spent 30 days at Gallipoli in Aug 1915 before going to hospital and then on to France. William left Australia on 5 Oct 1915, 13 days ahead of his cousin Robert L Pannam.
William never came home. He was the youngest of the 3, and an only child. Tragically he died after 3 years of active service on the VERY LAST DAY that any Australian or British Battalions fought on the Western Front.
