Rollo Orlando Bean

Born in South Africa to Frances and Gustavus Bean, he enlisted in Brisbane Australia in Jan. 1915.Rollo was gassed twice in the war, in March and in April 1918 at Abbeville before the end of the 2nd Division's campaign. He was taken by ship to Devonport Military Hospital, England, and then contracted influenza during the pandemic in June 1918 whilst on leave and was sent to King George Hospital for wounded soldiers, Stamford Street, London. After the war he was awarded the 1914/15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal, the three medals generally given to all participants of World War One. He fought in the following battles: Amiens, Broodseinde, Bullecourt, Hamel, Menin Road, Pozieres, Somme, Ypres.
