Private Harold Stanley BUTLER 2529

Pte Harold S. Butler was born at Murrurundi NSW. He was a 24 year old Groom at time of enlistment on the 19th July 1916. He embarked on the 25th october 1916 from Sydney NSW per "Ascansius" and disembarked on the 28th December 1916 at Devonport. He proceeded to France on the 3rd May 1917 and marched into Etaples on the 5th May 1917. On the 21st May 1917 he marched out to 35th Battalion and was killed in action on the 25th May 1917 in the field. He was buried at Strand Military Cemetery, Messines, France and reported by Rev J.W Dains. Private Butler was killed the first day he was in line, by a shell, and was instantaneous.
