Remembering Uncle William Hugh Cameron

William Hugh CAMERON, a 22 year old Hospital attendant from Jimboomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 November 1914; 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance, AIF, "A" Squadron, and embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A30 Borda 15 December 1914. He fought at Gallipoli. He also served as a corporal on nursing staff of 1st A.G. Hospital Army Medical Corps.  Before enlisting Will had worked at Sandy Gallop Mental Hospital near Ipswich and came from a family who bred horses so his knowledge would have been in great demand when he enlisted in the Field Ambulance section of the 2nd Light Horse.
At the conclusion of the war he returned to Australia on 24 February 1919. on H.T. Takada.
Discharged 01-05-1919.
William was part of the group to meet the Prince of Wales on his visit to Ipswich in July 1920.  He reached the rank of Lieutenant in the army reserve after full time service.
